VOLUNTEERING AT CITIZENS ADVICE
|
Frequently asked questions and answers.
Q. What sort of experience do I need to become an
adviser?
A.There is no need to have specific experience
to be an adviser. CAB volunteers come from all walks of life –
some with previous experience and some without. All new volunteers
receive full training and have an on-going training programme once
qualified.
Q. Do I need qualifications?
A.No, all that you need to know will be taught to you
during a comprehensive training programme. We want people who are good
communicators and who have the capacity and willingness to learn. You
will be supported all the way by a guidance tutor.
Q. How much time do I need to give?
A.You must be able to give a minimum of 10 hours per
week between Monday and Saturday. If you can meet this minimum, we will
try and be as flexible as possible about days and times you work.
Q. How long does the training take?
A.The length of your training depends on how many days
you are available to work with us, and how quickly you learn. Generally
speaking the more time you can spend on your training, the quicker you
will qualify. The training does not have a rigid structure and there are
no time limits; we believe that it is important to enable people to learn
at their own pace.
Q.
What other courses are available?
A.We offer a variety of other training, including courses
on welfare rights, debt, housing and employment. In addition you will be
able to attend relevant courses offered by other organisations.
Q. Will I get a qualification at the end of my training?
A.Yes, a Citizens Advice Certificate in Generalist Advice Work.
Our training is highly respected by many other agencies, and if you are looking
for paid work in advice/community work fields, the experience you will gain
from working with us will be extremely helpful.
Q.Does the bureau pay my childcare expenses?
A. Unfortunately there is no provision to pay childcare expenses.
Q. Are there any other vacancies?
A.We welcome applications for volunteer reception, office work and
book-keeping. Full training will be given.
Q. How do I apply?
A.Please call into the bureau or write to us giving your name and
address and we will send you an application form.
